Printed.com diversifies with VeloBlade Volta

The VeloBlade is the most compatible finishing solution for our printing processes

Printed.com were founded in 2011 and are a rapidly expanding online print destination with over 1 million orders processed to date. Supporting a wide range of customer types from creative entrepreneurs, SMEs and large corporates. The head office is based in Central London and the beating heart of their business, the printing site, customer service and account management departments are located in their 40,000 sq. ft property in Cramlington. Everything that Printed.com produce is printed in the UK and they’re very proud of their UK heritage. In their locations you’ll find a team who are creative, innovative, and passionate about what they do.

The company were in the market for a new digital die-cutting system and decided to invest in a VeloBlade Volta 1070+ fully automated sheetfed and roll fed digital die-cutting system from Vivid to expand their offering. David Duncan, Production Director at Printed.com told us, “The main reason why we were interested in buying a new system was so that we could offer custom size and shape stickers. Something our creative and retail sectors have been requesting for some time. Up until now we have been restricted to a set of pre-defined options. With the huge growth in online print throughout the pandemic, the appetite from customers to be able to quickly and affordably brand their packaging and products in eye catching and innovative ways, has increased dramatically. So we felt the time was right to invest.”

"Our new VeloBlade Volta offers a variety of tools and customisable processes to allow us to flex to fit each job perfectly, achieving the level of quality that our customers expect. The service we have received throughout the process from Vivid has been excellent. From the in-depth demonstration and training by the servicer engineers, Nathan and Jason, tailored to our business needs. As well as the continued support whilst we get to grips with the new system. We’ve had a strong relationship with the team at Vivid for a long time now and we know they share our passion for high quality products and innovation."

Why did Printed.com invest in a VeloBlade system?

As for why the company chose the VeloBlade Volta 1070+ over comparable systems Mr Duncan explained, “We began investigating the various solutions available to us in 2021 with a trip to FESPA. We had seen a big rise in the number of smaller cutting tables coming onto the market over the last 3 years or so and they were improving all the time. We looked at numerous other solutions such as large format roll-fed cutters and stickers on rolls. We chose the Veloblade as it was the most compatible finishing solution for our printing processes. Switching from job to job quickly with minimal set-up changes was also key for the high number of small to medium sized orders we receive daily, and most importantly it met our customers’ needs from an end-product perspective.

“The Veloblade digital cutting system will also unlock many more opportunities for our longer-term product roadmap and for customers via our bespoke service. Custom shape stickers are our primary focus, with packaging another area we are very keen to explore, but the opportunities really are endless. We are busy putting the system through its paces and really testing its versatility with complex and intricate shapes, kiss-cutting and creasing. Our favourite products have been the hexagon shaped business cards and the arch shaped and round wedding invitations, which are popular with our customers and a current trend in the industry. But this is only scratching the surface of what it can do,” Mr Duncan added.
