New monthly magazine Print Solutions also feature Vivid in a great double page article of their fantastic new publication.
June – A great month for Vivid in June. We exhibit at London’s ExCel for FESPA, where we debut the working prototype of the Matrix Duplex, a modular variant which retrofits to the multilingual MX-530 Laminator and allows the printer to laminate on both sides of the printed sheet at the same time. We were also crowned 'Social Media Champion' for the week by FESPA, who stated that we received the title for our engagement across all social media platforms.
July – We launch the Peak Instant PI-320 Pouch Laminator, which is ready to use in just 60 seconds and can laminate 8 A4 sheets before other systems have even warmed up.

August – We introduce three brand new products into our Trimfast range, the Integrated Cutter, the portable General Purpose Cutter and the Safety Straight Edge.
September – Vivid debut our upgraded Peak Lite range of pouch laminators, which are available in both A3 and A4 options. With environmentally friendly features and an easy-to-use control panel, the new Peak Lite is even lighter and more compact than our previous model.
The Tour de Force charity contact us to thank us for the superior quality of our Boss Laminating Pouches “As laminating pouches go, they were superior!”. The fundraisers follow the route of the official Tour de France and our Boss Pouches were used to guide the riders along the route.
Print Monthly’s Harriet Gordon also writes a very informative article on Commercial Finishing for the September issue. "Finish in-house and you see the whole job through, maybe even from the initial design, to the print and finally the finish". Harriet writes about the benefits of the Matrix MX-530, partnered with our Boss Laminating Film.
Image Reports journalist Nessan Cleary also writes a feature article for the October edition of the magazine on Wide Format Print Finishing. His write-up includes an evaluation of the Easymount Wide Format Laminator and the benefits of lamination “Of course, laminates are desirable when it comes to adding texture to a print surface or to enhance the colours”.
And finally in October, Print Monthly Journalist Harriet Gordon interviewed our Product Manager Bruce Cozens as part of their great ‘Interview with…’ series. “As long as there is print, there will be a need to protect your work through lamination, and as long as people need laminators, there will be Vivid.”
November – Print Finishing experts Duplo hold their annual London Calling event at the beautiful Somerset House. Vivid are invited to co-exhibit along with other print industry partners such as Renz, Balreed, Esko and Vpress.
Sign Update Magazine also publishes a great review of vehicle livery techniques by Features Editor Jemima Codrington. Jemima reports on wide format printers from Roland, vehicle wrap films from Dorotape and the importance of laminating, including a feature on our Easymount Wide Format Laminator range “The award-winning Easymount from Vivid has helped hundreds of sign-making and vehicle graphic companies to create stunning liveries on bikes, buses, cars and even boats”.
We hope that 2013 has been as successful and exciting for you, as it has for us! 2014 will see us exhibit at IPEX in London and ExpoPrint in Sao Paulo. We also have some very special new products launching. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, YouTube and LinkedIn for the latest news and product announcements.

Malta’s Main Teaching Hospital review of Easymount Laminator ‘extremely easy-to-use’
The Medical Illustration Unit within Mater Dei Hospital (Malta’s only general acute and teaching hospital) has recently taken delivery of an Easymount EM-1200SH Wide Format Laminator from our distributor in Malta, Venture Trading.
Mater Dei Hospital is a recently built 850-bed hospital. One of the many functions of the Medical Illustration Unit is to design and print large format posters that are used for staff education and patient information dissemination.
With the help of the easy-to-use Easymount System, these posters are now being regularly laminated.
Lamination of large posters have both a functional as well as an aesthetic role. Laminated posters can now withstand being wiped clean with liquid materials used for infection control purposes within a hospital environment. The posters are able to withstand much longer day-to-day usage and hence the need to re-print posters has been greatly reduced or eliminated.
Last but not least, their laminated posters appear more pleasing to the eye especially by the use of matt lamination in a clinical environment where reflections on the posters caused by harsh bright direct lights are eliminated.
The Medical Illustration Unit’s Manager, Brian Cassar, told us “We are finding the Easymount extremely easy to use and any staff member can laminate after a few simple instructions. Easymount really makes it easy to mount and laminate!”.
When thinking about purchasing a Wide Format Laminator, the first thing to consider is what you want to achieve with the laminator. Different applications require different solutions. Think about what you need the system to do:
Once you have decided exactly what you want to achieve, you can start to look at all the systems that will cover your needs.
You may need to do just one application, however some systems offer money saving multi-functional capabilities ...
Encapsulating involves a heat activated thermal film being applied on both sides of the print. The finished result is trimmed to leave a clear border around the edge of the print, therefore encapsulated. Film is available in gloss and matt finishes in a range of thickness including 38, 75, 125 and 250 micron rolls.
Lamination is usually applied on 1 side only with a pressure sensitive over laminate film, either onto printed vinyl for mounted prints, vehicle wraps, signage etc or onto printable block materials for exhibition graphics.
Mounting fixes a print to a substrate/board using an adhesive. This can be permanent or semi-permanent.
All Easymounts laminate and mount. If you have requirements for Encapsulation, you will need an Easymount Double Hot Machine.
There are various options on size, here are the most popular options on the market...
Think about the maximum size you will need to go up to. It is also worth ensuring the model you choose provides an inch or so gap either side of your maximum print size.
There are a range of systems on the market offering, cold, hot or double hot solutions.
Single Hot systems will give a high quality finish if you have graphics and signs to laminate. Applying heat will also reduce any chances of silvering on the print.
Double Hot systems will laminate, mount and encapsulate so are highly flexible if you require multifunctional usage.
At Vivid we feel roller size is very important because larger rollers give a good even pressure and longer dwell time giving crease free lamination. The heat and pressure process is also activated quicker with larger rollers.
The Easymount range has larger diameter rollers than similar models on the market.
It is important to consider the volume you will be doing to ensure you get a good return on your investment.
Work out how many prints you will be finishing on a daily/weekly basis to give you an idea of the profit you can make.
If you are looking at producing large volumes, then you may want to ask about time saving features such as our optional motorized take-up for running reel to reel prints.
Getting to grips with something new is always a challenge. Always look out for easy to use features before you buy, these can include;
At Vivid we include training and installation with every laminator we sell. However as the name suggests our Easymount™ range is designed for even a novice to use.
Training with a group or team of people can also be carried out by an experienced Easymount Representative.
Our service engineers are also just a phone call away for any 'teething problems' you may experience.
Consider that buying on-line at a 'bargain' price may sometimes be false economy as the price may not include the training and full installation you will need.
Always ensure any product you buy has an official CE mark (which is a legal requirement). Also look out for these important safety features (The Easymount range has all of the listed features);
It is also important to update your Health & Safety policy and/or Risk Assessment to include rules and precautions for employees to follow when operating the laminator.
Only allow trained operators to use the laminator to reduce risk of potentially expensive incorrect use or accidental damage. Put a notice next to your laminator to clearly state this to employees, especially if you have new starters.
As with any new purchase of a large item, space is usually an issue for most people.
Remember you don't just need the system to fit, you need to allow a working area around it to give enough space to feed your prints in and for them to exit without being creased or crushed against anything.
Vivid recommend at least a 1 metre working area around the system to ensure safe operation.
Occasionally problems do happen, so it's good to know that if they do you have backup.
Always check to make sure the laminator you are looking to buy comes with a full warranty on parts and labour for at least 12 months (The Easymount range includes this on all models as standard).
It may also be worth looking into an extended warranty or service agreement, these can save time in the long run and ensure your laminator stays in excellent working condition.
